Port Wine Stain Removal in Washington, DC

Before and After Gallery *

Port wine stains, also known as nevus flammeus or capillary hemangiomas, are a type of vascular birthmark that can occur anywhere on the body. While most port wine stains are completely cosmetic in nature, infrequently they can be associated with underlying abnormalities of the eye and brain. Port wine stains are diffuse collections of dilated capillaries in the dermis, and respond very well to treatment with pulsed yellow and green light lasers such as the Pulsed Dye Laser which target the red pigment of blood cells in the capillaries comprising these birthmarks. Multiple treatments are necessary and lesions commonly recur over time requiring additional treatment.
